We are loving the ability to feature a new grower every month, to be able to dive deep and really explore their style and philosophy. This month is a very special producer to us and that is Daniel Moreau of Vandieres. Bastien and Julie Moreau have been tending the family plots for over 2 decades and have been doing it their way from the beginning. Way before the practices of organic farming and biodiversity in plantings were de rigueur they had fully embraced it. They have been fully organic since 2005 and began growing grasses in between vines as far back as the 1990's. Back then their neighbors thought they were crazy, now they are seen as way ahead of their time.
All of this has led them to know each plot each plant and each inch of dirt in their vineyards. Their plants are extremely well tended and produce fruit that is superbly suited to make great champagne.
The first wine we are excited to share this month is Piece Maitresse, a blend of Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in almost even proportion. All of the grapes that went in to this blend are from the magnificent 2020 vintage. The first time we tasted this champagne it stopped us in our tracks. It has been featured on a One Bottle Review that received a lot of attention, and now in Le Deux Champagne Club for you to discover. You are going to love the exquisite finesse and beautiful harmony in this bottle.
The second wine this month is Ligne de Mire and it falls in to one of my favorite categories of champagne; 100% Chardonnay grown in a village and terroir that are generally reserved for red grapes. The chalk in the vineyard lends itself to the Chardonnay but the top soils are dense and thick so the wine picks up a texture and mouthfeel that you don't often get in Blanc de Blancs. This is a wow wine.
We really appreciate you and hope you enjoy this months shipment! As always, we are here if you need anything.
Cheers and Happy Spring,
Garth and Cat
